Milford Mill May 1, 2011

Milford Mill lived up to its reputation as a good warbler spot as our group of 13 took about 3 hours to make it
around the small loop. Lots of birds, lots of activity. Fun to hear so much singing but wish we'd gotten more
good looks. The back-light wasn't great at times, especially since many of the birds were high up--and
leaves are coming out. We got some really prime warblers.
Warblers:
Blue-Winged Warbler (1)
Parula (many)
Black-Throated Blue (thinly throughout)
Yellow-Rumped (many)
Black-Throated Green (several)
BLACKBURNIAN (a few)
Black-and-White (2)
Redstart (thinly throughout)
WORM-EATING (2)
Ovenbird (several)
Northern Waterthrush (2-3)
Common Yellowthroat (couple)
WILSON'S WARBLER (1)
Other Birds:
VEERY (1)
Wood Thrush (many)
ACADIAN FLY (1-2)
Baltimore Oriole (1-2)
Scarlet Tanager (1)
RB Grosbeak (think a couple people saw one; I had one at my feeder yesterday)
Indigo Bunting (couple)
Bluebirds
White-Eyed Vireo
Susquehanna State Park Sunday, May 8 (Tim Houghton)
What a magnificent day for birding--the 15 participants enjoyed a
lot of birds and many good looks. We birded a few hours,
concentrating on the immediate mill area and then the picnic area.
We found 18 warbler species, including Yellow (2), Blackburnian (4), Cerulean (6, great looks), both
waterthrushes (great looks at Louisiana), Prothonotary (5, great looks), Chat (2), Magnolia (3), Blackpoll
(some low, easy ones), and Kentucky (several).
Some of the other birds we enjoyed: Wood Duck, Yellow-Throated Vireo, Bald Eagle, Cooper's Hawk,
Orchard Oriole, Phoebe, Blue Heron, Osprey, hummer, Kingfisher, Veery (briefly), Wood Thrush, Indigo
